Former Culver City Mayor Daniel Lee became the first African-American Member of the Culver City Council in its over 100-year history in 2018 where he passed rent control, voted to close down the Inglewood oil field, began a reparations process, created a mobile crisis response team and worked to create permanent supportive housing. A veteran of the US Air Force and California Air National Guard, he currently works as Project Director at the James Lawson Institute and Program Director at Legal Advocacy and Education Commission. Daniel has a Master’s Degree in Social Welfare from UCLA and a Doctorate in Social Work from USC. He currently serves on the Board of Directors for Move to Amend, the Backbone Campaign, Mockingbird Incubator and Elected Officials Protecting America.
